CHRISTMAS has come early for a Honley couple.

They have been reunited with their baby a heartbreaking 96 days after she was born.

Iain and Mita Solanki-Willats won't be asking for presents this Christmas.

For they have received the greatest gift of all - their tiny daughter home at last.

Little Hope was born 14 weeks premature weighing only 1lb 13oz.

She spent her first three months fighting for life in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary's special care baby unit while her parents visited every day.

But after piling on the pounds to reach 6lb 7oz and impressing medics with her progress, doctors have finally allowed her home.

Proud mum Mita, 31, of Long Lane, said: "It is the perfect Christmas present.

"I was so giddy that morning. I couldn't wait to go and get her.

"It is so nice being able to pick her up whenever we feel like it.

"It is great that it is all over."

Hope's plight was highlighted in the Examiner last month when her parents appealed to health chiefs to halt proposals to move special care baby services to Halifax.

Iain, 32, said: "We have had first hand experience of using the obstetric, midwifery and special care services in Huddersfield.

"And they are all working excellently.

"It is difficult to understand why they are thinking of moving them when they are working perfectly.

"Hope is evidence of that."

The youngster still has to return to hospital weekly for special injections and is taking vitamins and iron.

Mita said: "Originally we thought she would need to come home with oxygen but she didn't.

"We are meant to avoid crowds and children in case she catches a cold.

"But we are now looking forward to pending Christmas day here with family."

Iain added: "We were told she probably wouldn't be home for Christmas and that it would more likely be in the new year.

"So we were ready for disappointment. But she has got her own master plan. We definitely won't be needing any presents this year.

"It is a really happy ending."
