A family is celebrating five generations after its latest addition, little Thomas Joshua Fiddes.

And it’s the second time they have been in the same situation.

Thomas was born three weeks ago to Maria Carroll and Josh Fiddes.

More than twenty years ago, Maria herself became the fifth generation of the family.

The birth of Thomas has delighted grandmother Sarah Carroll and her husband Brian of Taylor Hill as well as her mother Sue Lloyd and husband John of Bingley.

Sarah, 44, said: “My grandmother Josie Howes, who is 83 next month, is so proud and showing everyone photographs of little Thomas.

“We are not having a party immediately but are going to wait for the christening in October at St Paul’s Church in Armitage Bridge.

“Brian and I were married there – we were the first couple to get married in the new building after the old one was burnt down by vandals.

“I think it is quite exciting to have five generations.

“When you are the youngest in a big family you can learn a lot about local history and gain a perspective on things that you would not have otherwise.”

The Examiner featured the family back in 1991 when Maria was a baby.
