Warning after house fire today
A middle-aged couple got a shock when they left their home in Honley and came back to find it damaged by fire.
Andy Wooler, watch commander at Huddersfield fire station, said: “The tumble drier had been unplugged before they left the house, however the clothes have overheated inside the dryer.
“Fortunately, their neighbours have heard the smoke alarms going off and have contacted the police. Two crews from Huddersfield arrived at the house in Westcroft to find smoke damage and burns to the carpet.
“I would like to warn people with tumble driers to check filters and check their smoke detectors are working. They could have lost the top floor otherwise.”

Penistone quiz star "won't be extradited" over killing claim
A man from Penistone who appears on BBC show Eggheads has been told he will not be extradited from the country after he was arrested on suspicion of killing a man in the Netherlands.
CJ de Mooi, real name Joseph Connagh, was arrested at Heathrow Airport last month after claims he wrote in his book that he killed a mugger in Amstredam.
The quiz star had written that he punched the mugger and threw his body in a canal while working in the Dutch capital in 1988. The case was dismissed by a judge as “dodgy” after reports Dutch authorities didn’t even have a name for the alleged victim.
CJ De Mooi is originally from Penistone and has appeared as a guest at a pub quiz at The Black Bull in Shepley.

A Holmfirth resident has been in touch to say he’s been hearing WW2 air raid sirens in the area. Have you heard anything.
The resident said the noise went off at 10.28am and lasted a few minutes.
Many chemical plants like Syngenta on Leeds Road use these sirens as tests, although we’re not sure what’s been causing the noise up in Holme Valley!

British Transport Police are honing in on boys specifically in West Yorkshire, warning them about the dangers of playing on train tracks.
Police are concerned for youngsters’ safety as autumn half term approaches, and say they will be increasing patrols near local train tracks.
Chief Inspector Lorna McEwan from BTP said: “While the number of trespass incidents tend to tail off as the weather gets colder, we still receive a considerable amount of reports at this time of year with 97 offences recorded in West Yorkshire last autumn.
“Whether it’s due to a fascination with trains, peer pressure or lad culture, we know boys and young men are the most likely groups to go on the tracks and are therefore at a higher risk of being killed or seriously injured as a result of trespassing.”
