Special day for Matthew
A young volunteer spent the day in the life of West Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Burns-Williamson last week.
Matthew, aged 15, from Pontefract, near Wakfield, asked to work with West Yorkshire’s PCC as part of the Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover Challenge.
The challenge sees young people taking over top roles and sitting in the hot seat of influential jobs.
Matthew’s Takeover Challenge kicked off with a tour of the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and a chance to meet with the staff and discuss their roles.
Matthew then accompanied Mark to a meeting with his Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs), who volunteer to check on the welfare of detained persons in custody, and the Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police, Dee Collins.
The meeting was arranged for the ICVs to meet the new Chief Constable and receive an update on her vision for policing in West Yorkshire.

Eagle-eyed Town fans may have spotted that Town supporter on BBC’s One Show FA Cup draw last night was none other than Paul Hollas.
Paul, who spent more than 20 years working for the RAF and who is now an IT consultant, joked: “We got Tottenham in the rehearsals but Man City is not bad.”
Originally a Royds Hall pupil he is originally from Milnsbridge and runs the Southern Terriers for Town fans who find themselves living miles away from God’s own Country and want to get together and watch live Town matches either on TV or at Championship stadiums across the country.
He said: “No-one wants to go to a football match on their own.”
Gorden Kaye funeral
Funeral arrangements have been revealed for the Allo Allo star Gorden Kaye who died earlier this month.
The 75-year-old was one of the most familiar faces on TV and became a household name with the runaway success of 1980s comedy Allo Allo which revolved around the antics of a French cafe owner trying to ride out World War II and caught between the Gestapo and the Resistance.
A spokesman for Mackness Funeralcare in Moldgreen, not far from where Mr Kaye was born, said the service would be held at 12.30pm at Huddersfield Parish Church in Byram Street on Friday, February 17.
The Vicar of Huddersfield, Rev Simon Moor, will take the service which is expected to last an hour or so.
It is not yet known whether there will be any celebrity tributes at the public service.

Highways England on M62 congestion:
A Highways England spokeswoman said that due to technical issues with the CCTV cameras motorists were unable to use the hard shoulder or ‘congestion lane’ between Junction 26 and 27 Westbound during rush hour this morning following long delays due to a broken down lorry and earlier broken down vehicle.
The spokeswoman said: “We can’t open it, we don’t have visibility so for safety reasons we can’t open it. There was an issue last night and engineers are working on it now.”
And so to work...
Hope everyone’s made it through the M62. A stressful start to the working day for many. Hope your day gets better from now on!

Let's work Smarter, not harder...
Oh Hayley, we feel your pain! We’re going to ask the Highways Agency what they are doing about the CCTV. This Smart Motorway needs to be smarter.
