Huddersfield fire station watch commander Robin Ferguson said the incident happened at 9.40am today.

He said the man, who is in his mid-40s, had trapped one of his arms in an industrial baling machine, which he had been repairing.

“Fortunately one of his colleagues has managed to free him and put a tourniquet on his arm as he was losing blood.

“We administered first aid and gave him oxygen and tried to get him as comfortable as possible. He was bleeding quite a lot.”

Staff from the air ambulance worked on the injured man for 30 to 40 minutes before putting him in the air ambulance.

“It’s a serious injury and a life-changing one,” said watch commander Ferguson.

“He has several hours of surgery ahead of him.”

Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating.

Heavy traffic on the M62 near Leeds

Looks like there’s a spot of traffic trouble on the M62 in the Leeds direction this afternoon.

Traffic is slow and heavier than usual in both directions around junction 27 for the M621, as the live lane is out of use. One to watch out for if you’re heading to or from the area.

Rush hour is every hour at Chapel Hill

Looks like traffic is STILL very busy on Chapel Hill. Rush hour has become rush day.

We have contacted Northern Gas networks who are doing the gas works which has resulted in the traffic delays and are hoping to get a time scale on how much longer the roadworks are set to last.

Any updates and we’ll let you know, in the mean time do avoid the area unless you hate yourself.

Councillor's frustration over parking palaver in Mirfield

An update on the situation in Mirfield - a local councillor has expressed her frustration in delays to allocate proper parking spaces and create double yellow lines on Hopton New Road.

Clr Viven Lees-Hamilton said a proposal was submitted for double yellows but three objections were raised, meaning the issue will now have to go to local cabinet for discussion. “The people who raised an objection don’t understand the reason. As someone who uses the road regularly, it is an issue of great concern.

“Unfortunately we can’t paint double yellow lines until appropriate parking is sorted, otherwise we’ll just be spreading the problem out further afield.”

Watch Viven below driving round the area and demonstrating the problem with parking.

Court slaps crime prevention order on Kirklees car thieves

Car thieves who targeted victims in Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Batley have been given serious crime prevention orders by a judge.

Thomas Quinn, 37, and Gordon Hopkins, 39, are currently serving a combined 11 years for stealing £238,000 of cars. The order now means they could face an extra five years on top of any new sentence if they reoffend when released from prison.

The pair, from Leeds, were jailed in November following an investigation by police in Wakefield. Cars including VW Golfs, Audis, BMWs and a Seat Leon were taken from break-ins at mainly new build houses across West Yorkshire.

Det Chief Insp Dave Bugg, of Wakefield CID, said: “These orders have a clear deterrent factor and are intended to dissuade those who commit serious crime from being tempted to do some again.”

WATCH: Failed Batley & Spen candidate in vile racial slur on TV

Remember some of the characters who stood in the Batley & Spen by-election? Well, one of them has been on our screens again for all the wrong reasons.

Jack Buckby, who stood for Jo Cox’s seat with alt-right ant-Mulism group Liberty GB caused a ripple of shock on Channel 4 news last night, after telling a campaigner “take in Syrian refugees, I hope you don’t get raped”.

Buckby stood for the Batley & Spen seat against Tracy Brabin and various other fringe parties, many of which were far-right. He received 220 votes.

Last night’s vile outburst in a heated discussion between Buckby and Barbara Ntumy led to shock in the studio, and one crew member can be heard gasping “Oh My God”. Normally we prefer not to give people like this publicity, but the video speaks for itself.

Car stand off leads to police call out in Mirfield

Police have been called to Hopton New Road near to Mirfield Station after a stand-off between two cars.

Yep, really. If you know Mirfield, Hopton New Road is notorious for cars parked solidly down each side of the road meaning it is only wide enough for one car. This means when two are coming in the opposite direction, it can get a bit tricky.

One eyewitness has said two cars became involved in a stand off shortly before 11am where both refused to give way. Police confirmed they received a call with reports of “highway obstruction” at 10.57am.

Basically, it’s like the Wild West but with cars instead of cowboys.

Racy cocktail introduced to menu for 50 Shades of Grey film

Fancy a spot of TGI Fridays this week? It may involve a trip over to Birstall, but the eaterie chain are bringing out an exclusive cocktail to celebrate the new 50 Shades of Grey film (ooh-er).

The racy beverage is called a Mr Grey’s Screaming Orgasm and will be introduced to the branch today. Maybe not one to order while you’re taking your nan out for tea.

The Fridays-original creation features Baileys, Amaretto, Grey Goose vodka, Blovad black vodka, and white Cacau - a chocolate-infused liqueur made from the cacao seed which has aphrodisiacal qualities. The chemicals in the bean are said to stimulate the senses and heighten feelings of joy and pleasure. The black vodka creates the cascading, layered effect, which moves from a dark to a pale grey throughout the drink. Manacle and chain not included.

Meat's off the menu at Babe the Sheep Pig production

Animal rights group PETA have teamed up with staff at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and have vowed to remove all animal products from the café’s menu while they host a production of Babe - The Sheep Pig.

After learning of the production, the group - who promote a vegan diet - wrote to the Leeds theatre’s artistic director urging him to honour the little talking pig by taking animals off the venue’s café menu during the run – or even better, for good. As an added incentive, the group has offered to provide a supply of vegan hot dogs for the opening show.

“Many of the young children who will cheer for Babe would be horrified to learn that hot dogs are made from pigs like him”, says Kirsty Henderson, PETA’s senior campaigns coordinator.”

Van sets alight after engine overheats

Fire services attended a van fire in Marsh last night. The VW Transporter’s engine set alight shortly after the driver returned home on Lawrence Road at 9.15pm.

Two fire engines from Huddersfield were called out and extinguished the blaze. Luckily, no-one was in the vehicle at the time and no-one was injured. Although the driver is going to have to get the engine replaced which sounds like an expensive job...

Karen Matthews "fears for life" following airing of The Moorside

Karen Matthews has spoken out following the airing of The Moorside, revealing how the BBC drama has made her “fear for her life”.

Matthews claims she is worried about the repercussions of the decision to air the drama on her plot to feign her daughter Shannon Matthews’ disappearance in 2008. Now living in the South of England with a new identity, Matthews, 40, was bombarded with death threats following the first of two episodes being screened on Tuesday night, which was watched by seven million people.

The Mirror has reported how she told a friend: “I cannot go out of the door. I’m frightened for my life. I’m shaking like a leaf. I’m s*** scared to even get any shopping or anything. “I know I can’t stop it but why does it have to be dragged up again? Why don’t they just leave me alone and let me get on with my life?”
