Felix's charity book spotted in discount catalogue

A fan of Felix the Huddersfield Station Cat has spoken out after spotting the moggy’s recently released charity book being sold at less than half the price in a discount book catalogue.

Felix the Railway Cat was released on Thursday and copies have been flying off the shelves. The work details the life and times of the famous feline and proceeds are to go to Prostate Cancer UK. But Kirkheaton resident Sandra Harling said she became “irate” after spotting it for £4.99 in the Book People catalogue.

Sandra bought the book at full price from Amazon with the aim of boosting the charity and said she was “irate” over the discount.
“Buying the book from The Book People means an £8 saving and I was under the impression this book was raising money for charity,” she said. “I’m irate that the charity is missing out.”

We have contacted Felix’s team and the Book People for a response.

Warning over "can you hear me?" phone scam

Huddersfield residents are being warned over a particularly devious phone scam which is now targeting people in the UK after doing the rounds across the pond.

The “can you hear me?” scam has caught out many US citizens and is now reportedly hitting the country. It involves a cold call in which a stranger will introduce themselves before asking “can you hear me?” When answered “yes”, the affirmation is recorded then edited to sound like a verbal agreement to being charged for products and services the victim has never used.

While this is certainly a scary scam and residents should be well aware - one website claims it is not all it seems. Hoax busting site Snopes.com has pointed out - the scammers would have to be in possession of your debit card or credit card details to bill you, and they say they “haven’t yet been able to identify any scenario under which a scammer could authorize charges in another person’s name simply by possessing a voice recording of that person saying ‘yes.’”

Whatever the deal is - if you receive one of these calls, just put the phone down and contact police via 101.
