Shortly after 2pm on Tuesday, February 28, a burglary occurred at an address in Moortown.

The vehicle then turned right and drove the wrong way down the slip road onto the A58 Leeds Inner Ring Road before turning left and completing a U-turn and travelling in the direction of Armley Gyratory.

Other police units sighted the van and continued to follow it as it was driven through Armley, Wortley and into Farnley before travelling up Whitehall road and turning left onto Gildersome Lane, which was temporarily closed for road repairs.

The vehicle then collided with road repair machinery and a roadworker who received a serious leg injury.

There’s a Brexit vote tomorrow.

And Prime Minister Theresa May has issued a warning to peers they could “incentivise” the European Union to offer Britain a bad Brexit deal if they pass a further amendment to the Article 50 Bill.

The House of Lords is expected to vote on Tuesday on an amendment calling for Westminster to be given a “meaningful” vote on the withdrawal agreement secured by the Prime Minister during negotiations under Article 50 of the EU treaties.

Mrs May has promised Parliament a vote, but only on a “take it or leave it” basis, which would see the UK crash out of the EU without a deal if MPs reject the agreement she obtains.

She believes she must maintain this position in order to convince EU negotiators and other member states she is ready to walk away from the table if she does not like what is on offer.

MP campaign launches in store

A campaign led by Dewsbury’s MP has now launched on the high street.

Boots stores are now allowing customers to donate sanitary products to help those struggling to pay for them.

Dewsbury Labour MP Paula Sherriff said: “After our successful meeting a couple of months ago, I was delighted to launch the Boots UK scheme in Dewsbury on Friday for customers to donate sanitary products to help those who are struggling to pay for them. These will be distributed by the local Fusion Giving foodbank.

“The underlying causes of period poverty must be tackled - there’s been a disproportionate impact of this government’s tax and benefit changes on women and I’ll keep fighting this in Parliament. In the meantime, it’s important that those facing the humiliation of period poverty are given all the help they can get.”

Works on Elland Bridge

It took workers more than 12 months to re-build Elland Bridge - and now workers are back on site and there’s traffic lights controlling access.

Yorkshire Water say repairs are needed on Halifax Road, Elland.

It means there will be two-way traffic lights for up to six days to repair a burst water main at the junctions with Park Road and Elland Bridge.

During this time Park Road and Elland Bridge will be under two-way traffic light control.

Halifax Road will be under a Halifax-bound only road closure. No HGV traffic or bus services will use Halifax Road during these six days.

Diversion signs will be in place throughout this duration of the work.

13 terror attacks thwarted since 2013

This is close to home for us, after some of the London bombers hailed from our town.

But security services say they have prevented 13 potential terror attacks since June 2013.

Assistant commissioner Mark Rowley, the UK’s most senior counter-terrorism police officer, also said there were 500 live counter-terror investigations at any time.

Mr Rowley said: “Sometimes that public information has actually started an investigation.

“Other times it’s part way through and it corroborates some things or adds to things we already know.”
