Labour MP tells Huddersfield audience he is "sad and angry" over party's plight

Labour MP Jon Cruddas gave a talk at the University of Huddersfield earlier, telling an audience he was “sad and angry” about the party’s current plight.

The MP for Dagenham said a better understanding of Labour’s history and core beliefs would help reboost its prospects following a year of turbulence since the EU referendum and re-election of Jeremy Corbyn.

He described the crisis as “the greatest faced in its history”.

Man taken to hospital after collision between Land over and Jaguar

Remember that Land Rover left teetering over the edge in Clayton West? Police have told us a man was taken to hospital after colliding with it.

The Freelander had broken down on Wakefield Road just outside the village when a Jaguar collided into the back of it shortly after 8pm. The force of the impact pushed the vehicle off the road and down into a farmers field. Luckily the driver was not inside the car at the time. The man driving the Jaguar was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Sounds like he’s going to be okay. Not sure about his Jag, though...

Eyewitness saw police in the area the night before

We’ve been hearing a bit more detail about police activity in the same area of Leeds Road in the early hours of this morning, which residents have claimed could be connected.

A woman living in one of the houses opposite said: “I was woken up at just before 4am by the police trying to get into a house a few doors down from that house.

“They had to knock the door down to get in. Not sure if it’s related (...) today I just saw one armed officer jump out of a car and run down the alley way and then next thing loads of armed officers in front of my window stopping traffic.

“After around 15 mins they brought the lad out from the back of the house.”

Judges to discuss tougher penalties for revenge porn

Criminals convicted of revenge porn could face tougher penalties under new sentencing proposals, which have been announced today.

The charge - pertaining to offenders who post explicit pictures or video online or to others of people they know - currently only carries a maximum prison term of two years.

The Sentencing Council will meet tomorrow to consult proposals of higher levels of seriousness of the offence which could result in higher sentences. One instance would be sending images to a victim’s family who are very religious or cases which have been planned and involved a person setting up fake social media profiles to upload offending material.
