MP writes open letter to Theresa May over hospital 'scaremongering' comments

MP Paula Sherriff has written to the Prime Minister over comments she made about the downgrading of local hospitals on her pre-election trip to Dewsbury.

Theresa May responded to questions over the future of HRI and Dewsbury Hospital saying there had been a degree of scaremongering.

In a letter posted on Twitter, the MP for Dewsbury and Mirfield wrote: “Your comments have caused consternation amongst residents in my constituency and across Kirklees. I and many local people have been shocked by your dismissal of the serious situation faced by NHS services here in Kirklees.”

Following the Prime Minister’s comment, former Colne Valley Tory MP Jason McCartney said Mrs May was referring exclusively to Dewsbury Hospital.

Community raising cash to help injured lamb

Residents in Marsden are raising money to help treat a baby sheep who was found injured and left for dead.

Munchkin the lamb was found hurt and abandoned at the side of a road with a broken leg after being hit by a car. Rianna Mir, who set up a fundraising page to get Munchkin’s leg fixed, said: “We have been taking care of him but his leg is completely broken and for the vets to fix his leg it’s going to cost £,1600 which me or my family cannot afford.

“If he doesn’t have the operation he will most likely have to be put down as once he gets too big he won’t be able to hobble round on his three working legs. He is the most friendliest cuddliest bundle of joy and me and my family have fallen in love with him.”

Rianna is asking people to donate £1 on her page here.
