Congestion backing onto M62

Slow traffic on A644 eastbound between M62 J25 (Brighouse) and A62 Cooper Bridge Road (Cooper Bridge Roundabout).
The congestion is now back onto the M62 westbound exit slip road.

Missing man with head injury

Police are concerned for the welfare of a Polish man who has gone missing in Leeds.

Tomasz Tarkowski, aged 34, was reported missing from Leeds General Infirmary last night after attending for treatment to a head injury.

He left the building at about 10:43pm via the main entrance and turned right at the mini-roundabout.

He is described as white, 5ft 7in tall, medium build, with a bald head. He was wearing a zip-up jacket of shiny material, dark blue jeans, and a distinctive trainers which are bright blue with green soles.

He was carrying a royal blue rucksack and a black rucksack.

He had a 1cm cut to his left eyebrow covered with a plaster.

He speaks limited English.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Leeds District CID via 101 quoting log number 2054 of June 25.

First pictures of 12-year-old schoolboy who died last week

Crossley Heath have provided us with these pictures of pupil Daniel Beal, 12, who tragically died on Wednesday last week.

Tributes have been paid to the budding rugby player from Birkby, which can be seen here.

Men robbed at knifepoint near Greenhead Park

Detectives are appealing for information after two men were robbed at knifepoint on Trinity Street.

The terrifying incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning, although police have only just made us aware.

The two victims were walking along the road towards Park Drive when they were approached by two other men who demanded money and their phones and threatened them with a knife. They took the men’s belonging before making off.

The suspects are both described as white, around 5ft 10in. One had a tribal tattoo on the left side of his neck. Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101.

'Monster' jailed for murdering girlfriend before waiting 24 hours to call an ambulance

A man has today been jailed for 23 years for the brutal murder of his partner on Christmas Day.

James Hutchinson left partner Nicola Woodman “badly mutilated” with 102 injuries after tying her up, stabbing her 24 times and hitting her over the head with a wooden axe shaft at his home in the Holme Wood area of Bradford.

He then left her to buy drugs before finally calling an ambulance the next day to say she had been stabbed. Det Chief Insp Stuart Spencer said after the case at Bradford Crown Court today:

“Hutchinson’s callous and calculating actions can only be described as monstrous.”

Assault victim "was stabbed in leg"

Police have confirmed that the man attacked in an assault in Holmfirth was stabbed in the leg.

A spokesperson said:

“Two males were involved in an altercation and 20-year-old male suffered puncture wounds to his leg and are not thought to be life-threatening. Enquiries are ongoing.”

Man taken to hospital after assault in Holmfirth

A man has been injured in an assault in Holmfirth.

A police cordon has been in place at Field Road, Cinder Hills Road, after emergencies were called yesterday at 3pm.

The victim was taken to hospital although currently police have no information about the extent of his injuries. We will update you on this when we get more information.

Police gathered to hold a minute’s silence in memory of the victims of the Finsbury Park mosque attack last week.

One man died and several were injured in the attack.

  • The Tories have agreed a deal with the DUP to form a coalition government. The decision means an extra £1bn cash for Northern Ireland.
  • Four people have been arrested following protests over the death of a young father at a traffic stop in London. The IPCC is investigating claims Edir Frederico Da Costa, 25, was “brutally beaten” by police officers earlier this month. Six police officers were injured in the protests resulting from Mr Da Costa’s death.
  • Health food chain Holland & Barrett - who have a store on Huddersfield’s New Street - has been sold for £1.8bn to a Russian billionaire. L1 Retail, owned by Mikhail Fridman, is buying the chain from firm Carlyle.

There’s been an accident on the M1 northbound between junctions 40 and 41 - please be aware of possible delays if you’re planning on travelling between Huddersfield and Wakefield/Leeds this lunchtime.

Man in his 70s hurt in road accident

An elderly man has been injured in a collision in Dewsbury.

The man, in his 70s, was hurt after a blue Toyota Corolla and red Suzuki collided outside the B&Q store in the town centre this morning. His injuries are not believed to be serious.

Delays on the Elland Bypass due to broken down lorry

There are problems on the Elland Bypass this morning after a lorry broke down, blocking one lane.

The northbound carriage is partially blocked and traffic is experiencing delays.

MPs unable to answer emails following cyber attack

Local MPs have been left unable to answer their emails following a cyber security attack at Westminster.

Staff and MPs have been ordered to change their passwords after up to 90 email accounts were affected by hackers trying to break in by searching for weak passwords. Batley & Spen MP Tracy Brabin tweeted earlier claiming she was still unable to access her account. Investigations are currently underway.

Yellow warning issued for rain

A yellow warning for rain has been issued for tomorrow.

The Met Office say heavy rain is expected in the North West and parts of West Yorkshire, which may affect travel. Brollies at the ready!

Missing teenager may be in West Yorkshire

Have you seen missing Farhana Begum?

The 17-year-old has been reported missing from her home in Wrexham, North Wales, although police say she may be in West Yorkshire.

The teenager has connection sin Bradford. She was last seen wearing a green jacket and black leggings and carrying a dark-coloured bag.

Bomb disposal squad called in after chemicals found at flat

If you’re wondering what’s been happening over in Wakefield this morning, here’s what...

Police and Army bomb disposal experts were called to a flat at Westgate End, near to the city centre, late last night after ‘unknown chemicals’ were discovered. Investigations were carried out and a 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a drugs-related offence shortly prior to the property being searched.

The incident is not being treated as terror-related. Police cordons have now lifted and the road is re-opened.

Fish graffiti can stay, council reveal

It’s official - Boris the fish is here to stay for good, the council have confirmed.

The graffiti artwork outside the Bridge Fisheries in Slaithwaite was originally commissioned to cover the work of vandals. But despite the protest from Kirklees, owner Mathew Tate has now been given the green light for Boris to stay in plaice.

Detectives still trying to trace teen who attacked man in Greenhead Park

Police this morning are continuing to trace a teenager who broke a young man’s jaw in a serious assault in Greenhead Park.

Aston Collins, 20, suffered horrific injuries in the attack on Wednesday. A police spokesperson this morning confirmed no arrests have yet been made.

The suspect is described as an Asian male, aged 14, 5ft 6”, medium build, with short brown hair. He had a blue pot on his arm and was carrying a black school bag and school kit. Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101.

West Yorkshire council to rebrand themselves as 'Leeds City Region'

West Yorkshire’s supercouncil are to vote this week on rebranding themselves around the Leeds branding, saying it has greater national appeal.

West Yorkshire Combined Authority, who handle matters of transport and economic development for Kirklees and the rest of the county, plan to change their name to the Leeds City Region Combined Authority.

A final decision will be made at the authority’s meeting in Leeds on Thursday.

Driver caught at 121mph on the M62

Police caught someone driving at over 120mph on the M62 at Scammonden last night.

Seriously, if you want to drive at speeds like this go and find a race track or buy an Xbox. Don’t put other people’s lives at risk because you fancy yourself a Jeremy Clarkson wannabe.

Warning for Wakefield commuters

Traffic on the M62 and M1 is all running smoothly this morning with no incidents to report.

As for the local roads, again no incidents to make you aware of. If you’re commuting to Wakefield this morning, please be aware that traffic on Westgate is extremely slow (although now easing) due to an ongoing police incident from overnight.
