Bradley nursery speaks out over car collision

Nursery workers at Bradley Bar Nursery have told how they helped police officers after a three-car crash outside this morning.

Six people, including four children, were taken to hospital after the crash on Bradley Road. Their injuries are believed to be minor.

Vikki Robinson, who works at the nursery, said she and another colleague assisted officers as they dealt with the crash. The two helped close the road as cars were diverted, and helped with moving debris.

She said: “Something needs to be done about this road. Drivers don’t realise it’s actually a thirty zone with lots of children about. There have been accidents here before.

“Obviously as a nursery on a busy main road we are concerned and will be supporting any move to put in more speed restrictions.”

CCG leader admits Kirklees is victim of a postcode lottery for controversial health scheme

A health chief has admitted his plan to delay non-urgent surgery for obese people and smokers will create a postcode lottery in West Yorkshire.

A proposal was put forward last June for Greater Huddersfield CCG to block people who are too fat or smoke from getting an automatic place in the queue for routine operations.

Dr Steve Ollerton, clinical lead at GHCCG, admitted neither Calderdale nor Wakefield had immediate plans to bring in an identical scheme.

With the regions’ three hospitals taking patients from all three areas, Dr Ollerton admitted Kirklees patients would be the first to fall foul of the plan.
