Here is the full statement from the CCG on Fieldhead Surgery’s closure.

“The CCG was notified earlier today (01.12.2017) of a sewerage blockage at Fieldhead Surgery that has caused a leak within the building. This is currently being dealt with by experts on site and the area has been isolated.

For safety reasons, patients are being advised not to enter the building and to talk to one of the surgery’s clinical team over the phone if appropriate. Patients who do need to go into the surgery are being advised of the situation.”

Festive drink drive campaign launched

It’s that time of year again...

Police have launched their annual festive drink drive campaign, reminding party goers that not all those guilty of the offence are young men.

WYP are using the hashtag #NotTheUsualSuspects to highlight that anybody is capable of being convicted of drink driving over the Christmas period. The campaign uses mugshots of people from Christmas parties tackling the stereotype of drink drivers in a bid to increase awareness of your own responsibility when it comes to driving to events where there is alcohol.

Sergeant Gary Roper of the Force’s Roads Policing Support Unit said: “Statistically, young men continue to form a large proportion of those whom we stop for drink driving, however we are seeing more and more men, and increasingly women aged over 35 who are drink driving, many with the attitude ‘it’ll never happen to me’.”

National news

Here’s a round up of the main headlines today...

STEPFATHER CONVICTED OF MURDERING TODDLER IN 1968
A stepfather who swung a toddler by the ankles and bashed his head against a fireplace then lied about it for almost 50 years has been convicted of murder. David Dearlove was seen attacking 19-month-old Paul Booth in 1968 by the little boy’s brother Peter, then aged just three, when he crept downstairs for a drink. The 71-year-old denied killing the toddler at the family home in Haverton Hill, Stockton, telling a jury at Teesside Crown Court that the boy had suffered the fatal head injury by falling out of bed.

WORK COMPUTER USED BY MP DAMIAN GREEN ‘CONTAINED THOUSANDS OF PORN IMAGES’
“Thousands” of legal pornographic images were found on a computer used by First Secretary of State Damian Green during a police raid in 2008, a retired Scotland Yard detective has said. Neil Lewis told the BBC he was “shocked” at the volume of material and had “no doubt whatsoever” that it was accessed by the Tory MP. He stressed that none of the images were “extreme”, but said analysis of the computer suggested they had been viewed “extensively” over a three-month period, sometimes for hours at a time. Mr Green declined to comment on Mr Lewis’s allegations.

MEGHAN SPARKLES IN NOTTINGHAM WALKABOUT WITH HARRY ON FIRST PUBLIC OUTING
Prince Harry and bride-to-be Meghan Markle began their public life together with a whirlwind of handshakes and smiles as the crowd chanted their names during their first walkabout. Harry chose Nottingham, a city and its people who are close to his heart, as the place to introduce his bride-to-be to the UK.

During the walkabout, which lasted just over 20 minutes, Ms Markle was wrapped up against the cold in a long dark blue coat by Mackage, and boots, and was handed armfuls of flowers, chocolates and other gifts.

Morrisons found liable for personal data leak

Supermarket giant Morrisons has been found liable for a huge data leak in a landmark case that could lead to payouts for thousands of workers.

A High Court in Leeds has this morning ruled in favour of a compensation claim from thousands of staff whose personal details were posted online.

The security breach was in 2014 when Andrew Skelton, a senior internal auditor at the retailer’s Bradford headquarters, leaked the payroll data of nearly 100,000 employees - including their names, addresses, bank account details and salaries - putting it online and sending it to newspapers
