Cllr Naheed Mather, Cabinet lead for enforcement said: “Whilst the council has issued a caution in this instance it does not detract from the seriousness of the incident. I would like to remind all premises how dangerous breaches of health and safety such as this can be. When a parent entrusts a child into someone else’s care they should be able to feel confident that their child will be safe and it is the company’s responsibility to ensure this takes place.”

Lorry recovered from Woodhead Pass after veering off road

Traffic officers have recovered this lorry after it skidded off the road and fell down steep banking last week.

The HGV was recovered by a crane yesterday after the collision on the Woodhead Pass on Thursday. Video posted by the Facebook page HGV Dashcam Footage shows the lorry on its side down the verge. It’s thought the lorry had skidded on ice when it left the road, and it wasn’t recovered until yesterday due to the scale of the job and the disruption it would cause.

It’s not thought the driver was seriously injured in the collision.

TWO BOYS TO FACE TRIAL OVER ‘SCHOOL MASSACRE PLOT’
Two teenagers will go on trial next year accused of plotting a Columbine School-style attack. The boys, aged 14 and 15, from Northallerton, North Yorkshire, appeared for a hearing at Leeds Crown Court, accused of conspiracy to murder. The older youth is also charged with unlawful wounding and aggravated burglary. Neither teenager entered any pleas. The trial has been scheduled for May next year.

IRISH GOVERNMENT ‘REMAINS FIRM’ OVER BORDER AS MAY HEADS FOR CRUNCH BREXIT TALKS
The Irish Government has made clear that the border issue remains unresolved ahead of a crunch round of Brexit talks involving Prime Minister Theresa May and key EU figures. It comes as the PM prepares to meet European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker and Donald Tusk, the president of the European Council, later today for negotiations that could have a crucial bearing on whether she is able to secure an overall Brexit deal.

While the two sides appear to be moving closer on the UK’s divorce bill and future citizens’ rights, it is unclear whether they can bridge the gap on the Irish border - the third area where Brussels is demanding progress.

FOREIGN AID SCHEME SUSPENDED AFTER CLAIMS MONEY WAS BEING USED BY EXTREMISTS
The Government has suspended a foreign aid scheme after an investigation claimed that taxpayers’ money was being used by extremists in Syria. Officers from the Free Syrian Police (FSP), the civilian police force backed by Britain, have also been working with courts accused of torture and summary executions, BBC One’s Panorama alleged. Evidence also showed that the Syrian branch of al Qaida, Jabhat al-Nusra, had handpicked police officers for two stations in Idlib province, it said. Britain is one of six countries funding the FSP, which was set up after the Syrian uprising.

Man chased his car down the hill after vandals set it alight

A motorist had to stop his car from rolling down the road after arsonists set it ablaze and the fire burned through the handbrake cord.

The man in Dalton heard a bang and saw his Audi A3 had been set on fire on Woodedge Avenue in Dalton just before midnight last night. Fire services said the car had begun to slow roll down the street and the owner had to throw a brick under the wheel to stop it. The owner also tried to put the fire out himself with a hose.

A crew from Huddersfield Fire Station were called to the scene and extinguished the blaze. The car has been completely written off and it’s thought the bonnet had been deliberately ignited.

A crew member said: “Luckily nobody was injured although it could have been very serious, particularly with lots of houses around.”
