Traffic alert

There’s queueing traffic on A629 Salterhebble Hill and Huddersfield Road at the roadworks near the hospital by A646 Dryclough Lane.

It’s because of the ongoing works to widen the road between Huddersfield and Halifax, around the hospital.

‘Security incident’ at RAF base

A man has been arrested after apparently trying to drive through a checkpoint at a base used by the US air force in Suffolk.

RAF Mildenhall was put into lockdown as police responded to reports of what they called a “significant incident”.

A person was arrested and is now in the custody of Suffolk Police.

Two dead after hotel fire

Two guests have died after fire broke out at the Cameron House Hotel beside Loch Lomond.

More than 200 guests were evacuated from the luxury hotel after the alarm was raised at about 06:40.

Bomb hoax at Yorkshire school

Police are hunting a hoax caller who sparked the mass evacuation of a secondary school over a bomb threat.

Police say no device was found at Birley Academy after officers rushed to deal with a ‘suspicious incident’ just before 10am this morning.

Parents described a scene of panic after being sent text messages urging them to collect their children. School kids were escorted out in small groups to nearby playing fields while officers combed the Sheffield school.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said the college chose to immediately evacuate all 1,200 students as a “precautionary measure”.

Good Samaritans helped knife victims

A woman who helped a knife victim has spoken of her shock.

The woman and a female colleague helped a blood-soaked teenage boy who stumbled through their shop door following a knife fight between rival gangs yesterday.

Deborah, who didn’t want to give her full name, said the lad who had been slashed down the left hand side of his body, ran into Simply Food & Drinks in Newsome village centre following the incident which occurred just after 6pm.
She said: “He was in a bloody mess. He was very pale and quiet.
“He had blood all over him and came in with a lass who had blood on her too.
“My colleague who is First Aid-trained put a towel round his side where he had been slashed.
“We sat him down in a corner and phoned for an ambulance which came very quickly.”

Two injured in Newsome knife attack

Police are appealing for witnesses following two teenagers’ sustaining serious injuries at the weekend.

Officers received reports on Sunday 17 December, of an ongoing fight between a group of people, at around 6pm on Church Lane, Newsome.

Two 16-year-old boys suffered stab wounds and were taken to Leeds General Infirmary for urgent medical treatment.

One of the teenagers remains in hospital in a stable condition.

A 16-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contact the police via 101 quoting crime reference 13170588237.

Robbery at shop

Police are appealing for information following a robbery at the McColl’s shop in Gomersal.

The incident happened on Sunday 17 December at around 9:30pm at the premises in Spen Lane.

Three suspects entered the store, one of which was carrying a baseball bat.

They approached members of staff inside the store, threatened them and demanded money from the till. They fled the shop with money.

The suspects are described as three white males in hooded tops all with local accents.

Anyone with any information, or witnessed the three suspects in and around the area on Sunday, is asked to contact the police via 101 quoting crime reference number 13170588405 or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Water leak fixed

The water leak at the Scapegoat Hill pumping station has been fixed.

Yorkshire Water had to cut the water off to over 300 properties in HD3, HD7 AND HX4 over an hour ago.

They say: “Thank you for your patience, repairs have now been completed and the water has been turned back on.”

They say anyone with discolouration of water should run the cold water tap for 5 minutes.

Over 300 properties in the HD3, HD7 and HX4 postcodes are affected by a leak at one of Yorkshrie Water’s stations.

They say teams are onsite dealing with this matter.

After a cold and frosty start, Monday will be a dry day with some good spells of sunshine.

It will become misty through the evening. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Obernight will be dry with areas of mist, low cloud and foggy patches and it will be frosty by morning with a minimum temperature of -1 °C.

Tuesday will see the fog clear and a breeze will come in, bringing patchy drizzle to the Pennines area.

Local roads

Here’s an overview of what’s happening on local roads:

1) Queueing traffic on A629 Salterhebble Hill and Huddersfield Road at the roadworks near the hospital by A646 Dryclough Lane. Travel time is nine minutes.

2) Very slow traffic and traffic heavier than normal on A650 in both directions around A650 Westgate Hill Street / B6135 Westgate Hill Street.

Due to the congestion on M62 Westbound and the main carriageway closure at J26.

Incident on M621

If you’re heading into Leeds then be aware one lane of the M621 is closed and there’s queueing traffic due to accident, three cars involved on M621 Westbound between J1 A6110 (Beeston/Farnley) and M62 J27 / A650 / A62 (Gildersome).

Lane two (of two) is closed.

M1 incident

M1 Northbound, one lane is closed on entry slip road and there’s heavy traffic due to broken down vehicle at J40 A638 (Ossett / Wakefield).
Lane one (of two) is closed as you come down from the roundabout.

Incident in Saddleworth

The A640 Huddersfield Road in both directions closed due to police incident between Whitehead Street and A640 Rochdale Road / A672 Ripponden Road / A6052 Delph Road / A672 Oldham Road (Denshaw Crossroads).

Traffic is coping well.
Road has been closed since midnight affecting traffic between Newhey and Denshaw.

M62 alert!

Queueing traffic, the mainn carriageway closed and severe delays due to debris on road on M62 Westbound at J26 M606 / A58 Whitehall Road / A638 Bradford Road (Chain Bar), congestion on M62 to J28 A650 / A653 (Tingley).
The M606 has been closed southbound due to an accident which occurred on the link road from the M606 above the carriageway and debris has fallen on to M62 below.

Both the M62 and M606 are likely to remain closed through morning rush hour.
Diversion - traffic is going down the exit slip road and back up the entry slip road.
