Yellow warning in place

Weather warnings remain in place today.

Temperatures may be slightly milder but forecasters day the risk of black ice remains.

A Met Office spokesperson: “Once again, ice will be a hazard in places through this period. This will happen as heavy showers of rain, hail, sleet & snow alternate with clearer periods, allowing temperatures to dip sharply.

“Through the rest of Thursday daytime, ice and snow will be mostly found over higher ground but with possible local accumulations of snow at lower levels. As a consequence, icy stretches are likely on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths with some slippery surfaces likely. There may also be travel disruption.”

What's a Yaktrax?

Just seen this post from the Marsden page on Facebook.

“Just seen a gritter but it’s VERY icy. Even with Yaktrax I was sliding on ice crossing the road outside the Swan so please take care.”

I wasn’t sure what a Yaktrax was - a 4x4 perhaps?

Had to Google it and it turns out they are ice grips for your boots. You learn something every day!

It must be bad if ice grips don’t grip on the ice...

School buses affected

Not surprisingly school buses are having problems this morning. It’s the side roads and higher villages where the impact is being felt.

Upper Hopton warning

Upper Hopton had a covering of snow last night and the roads have been left treacherous overnight. Hopton Lane was slushy and cars were taking it steady for once. So beware from the Travellers Rest down to the Flowerpot.

No road closures to report

No road closures that we can see of this morning.

The Woodhead Pass is open, as is Holme Moss Road. The main problems this morning are to do with icy conditions so despite roads being open it’s still best to avoid the more rural and hazardous routes.

Patches of sheet ice

It’s pretty treacherous out there this morning. There was some snowfall in places last night which has melted slightly and then frozen.

The upper parts of the Colne Valley are worst affected. There is a warning about ice on pavements in the centre of Marsden.

There are reports the Dirker bus turned round at Fall Lane at 5.38 this morning due to frost and ice on the roads.

You can’t be too careful walking or driving!

Fire fighters said he avoided more serious injuries due to wearing protective leathers.

Take care out there, folks!
