A man damaged a car after hurling racist abuse at its owner and threatening to burn his house down.

Kirklees magistrates heard that Jamie Hardisty had been involved in a long-running dispute with the victim Tariq Malik.

The 25-year-old pleaded guilty to two charges of racially-aggravated threatening behaviour and an offence of racially-aggravated criminal damage.

Magistrates heard Mr Malik had returned home in his Fiat Punto with his partner to Ninth Avenue, Liversedge, on May 31 when they were approached by Hardisty.

Alex Bozman, prosecuting, said: “He shouted: ‘You dirty black b*****d ‘ and there were further verbals in which racial language was used.

“Mr Malik went into the home and the defendant kicked his vehicle several times, causing damage to the wing mirror. He said: ‘This is my turf, I’ll burn the house down you P**I’.”

In another incident Mr Malik was getting into his car following a football match on July 3. Hardisty drove past and swore at him, before reversing his vehicle and returning towards Mr Malik leaving him fearful

Magistrates were told that issues between the two men had been on-going for some time and things had been escalating. They adjourned sentencing for a full report.

Hardisty must reside at Edward Street in Liversedge and not contact Mr Malik.
