Staff at Lidl, Holmfirth, want to raise £10,000 to help save a child’s life.

They decided to launch the fundraising drive after one of the staff, Liz Robb, was left heartbroken after her nephew, Newsome toddler, Archie Brook, died last year aged six years old.

Archie was born with a double brain condition which has severely affected his development. He was unable to walk or support his head and suffers regular seizures. He died at Martin House Hospice in April 2014.

Now the supermarket staff want to help other youngsters.

Liz said: “We have set a high goal but I am very passionate and determined.

“We have been doing daily raffles in store and had a cake day on August 1 which raised nearly £1,000 in three hours.

“On Sunday, August 30, we are holding a Charity Ball Auction called Lidl’s Search For Me In Rainbows, which starts at 7.30pm at Brambles, Holmfirth.

“But our big event will be on Tuesday, September 29, when 13 of the staff from Lidl are doing a charity skydive to help raise this £10,000.

“September is Child Awareness Month and most of us are petrified of heights but feel we must overcome our fear to help save a child.

“If we only save one child to someone’s family that will mean the world.

“I hope everyone in the Home Valley community can help us reach our target.”

People can give money on the JustGiving page.

Money is being raised for Clic Sargent, Lidl’s leading charity that helps children and young people who have cancer.
