ART is being made more accessible to buyers through a new interest- free loan scheme.

Twenty-five galleries in the Yorkshire and Humber region are taking part in an Arts Council England scheme to encourage people to buy original, contemporary art.

Own Art allows people to borrow up to £2,000 to purchase art.

Galleries taking part include Huddersfield Art Gallery, North Light Gallery in Armitage Bridge and Sanderson George and Peach in Holmfirth.

More galleries are expected to take part in the next few months.

Own Art builds on a hugely-successful pilot project started in the north-east.

Andy Carver, executive director of Arts Council England's Yorkshire region, said: "The arts market in Yorkshire is underdeveloped yet we know there is enormous scope for growth.

"Many more people will now be able to enjoy living with original, high-quality art in their homes."
