Schools in Kirklees and Calderdale get a share of £367 million repairs fund

More than two dozen local schools are to receive a share of a £367 million fund to repair and extend their buildings.

Thirteen schools in Kirklees and 15 in Calderdale have been named as beneficiaries of the Condition Improvement Fund 2015/16 - although details of how much each will get have not yet been released.

Each is expected to receive tens if not hundreds of thousands of pounds.

More than 1,000 English schools will share the money. The fund criteria include keeping academy and college buildings safe and in good working order by tackling poor building conditions, building compliance, energy efficiency and health and safety issues.

The funds can also be used to support eligible academies and colleges to expand to increase the number of admissions of Ofsted Good or Outstanding academies and colleges.

Schools can address overcrowding or a lack of facilities, such as kitchens, dining areas, science labs or sports halls.

The schools and projects are: Greenhead College - lighting and heating scheme, King James’s - roof replacement, Huddersfield New College - block roof repairs, Shelley College - changing room refurbishment and re-roofing, The Mirfield Free Grammar and Sixth Form - replace windows and reclad CLASP buildings, Heckmondwike Grammar - curtain walling and window replacement, Batley Girls’ High - toilet refurbishment , Batley Grammar - heating replacement Phase One, BBG Academy kitchen refurbishment to increase capacity and urgent H&S window/glazing replacement, Birstall Primary Academy - external play improvement works, Fieldhead Primary Academy - roofing, toilet improvement, Diamond Wood Community Academy, Dewsbury, hall store extension.

Calderdale projects include: Brighouse High - electrical supply improvement, Crossley Heath - replacement sixth form block, Field Lane Primary School, Rastrick - replace heating pipes, Old Earth Primary School, Elland - re-roofing and toilet refurbishment, St John’s (CofE) Primary Academy, Clifton - re-roofing, The Greetland Academy - roof replacement and remodelling of Year 6 toilets, North Halifax Grammar - renewal of steel framed windows, curtain walling and roof coverings and St John’s Primary School, Rishworth - window replacement.

Castle Hall Academy new boiler plant was not listed, but the Mirfield school was invited to resubmit an application.
