A Lockwood man was found with a bag of cocaine on him when he was searched by police.

Mohammed Khan, of Oxford House in Swan Lane, admitted possession of a class A drug.

He claimed in interview that he couldn’t recall how he obtained the drugs.

Kirklees magistrates were told that on July 3 police arrested Kahn for an unrelated matter.

He was searched in the custody area of Huddersfield Police Station.

A small bag of white powder was found in a bag in the 44-year-old’s wallet.

Forensic tests confirmed that the drug was cocaine. Khan initially claimed that the drugs were not his before admitting the offence.

Arshad Khan, mitigating, said that his client suffered from significant mental health issues.

He said: “In interview he said he couldn’t remember how these drugs got into his possession. He suffers from memory loss and it could have been his or somebody else’s. But he accepts it was in his possession and enters a guilty plea.”

Magistrates fined Khan £110 and told him to pay £85 costs and £20 victim surcharge.

They also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the cocaine.
