A LOCKWOOD man stole his friend’s phone and then tried to sell it on, a court heard.

Peter Kirwan was before Kirklees magistrates sitting in Huddersfield yesterday.

He had admitted theft of the iPhone on the day he was due to stand trial.

Linda Fowler, prosecuting, said that on May 10 Philip Holt had asked Kirwan round to his property.

He had wanted his help to sort out his bedroom.

Mrs Fowler said that Kirwan, of North Street, spotted the iPhone on the floor and hid it with his foot.

He then picked up the phone and put it in his pocket.

Magistrates were told that Kirwan took the phone to the CeX store, which buys and sells products, on New Street.

Staff examined the phone and called police.

Mark Brookes, defending, said that his client ‘quite meanly’ took the phone as he helped his friend tidy up the bedroom.

He added staff called police because they were concerned about some images they found on the phone.

Mr Brookes said that the images had nothing to do with his client and the phone is still being held by police.

Magistrates gave Kirwan a curfew for 10 weeks between the hours of 9.30pm and 7am.

He was also ordered to pay £150 costs.
