LOCAL Freemasons teamed up with former Examiner sports editor John Gledhill to raise cash for children's eye treatment.

Mr Gledhill, a member of Thornhill Masonic Lodge, Lindley, enlisted the help of his Lodge in securing a grant from the Provincial Grand Master's Fund.

And together they raised £750 which they presented to Consultant Ophthalmologist Keith Davey at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

The money will help fund a new piece of equipment to investigate potential eye problems for children while under anaesthetic.

Mr Gledhill said he personally wanted to thank Mr Davey for his help in treating a serious eye condition and felt that support for children attending the Infirmary's eye clinic was a good way of doing this.

The money will purchase a retinoscope and opthalmoscope set.
