A HUDDERSFIELD woman who saved the life of a young boy has been named one of the UK's best lollipop people.

Raj Kumari was given the honour after becoming a finalist in the Golden Jubilee Lollipop Person Competition, to celebrate 50 years of the school crossing patrol service.

She was nominated for the award after she stopped a boy from running into the path of a lorry by using her sign as a barrier.

Mrs Kumari is a lollipop lady at Spring Grove Junior, Infant and Nursery School in Springwood.

She got down to the final 11 nominees from hundreds of entries. She won praise for patience and always having a smile on her face.

Kirklees Council is to present her with an original watercolour painting and a bouquet.
