TWO more sporting schemes in Kirklees have been recognised nationally by the Sports Council.
Doorstep into Sport and The Kirklees Swim Training Scheme are the latest of nine local sporting schemes to be validated by the London 2012 Inspire programme.
Doorstep into Sport introduces sporting activities to housing estates and unused land sites. The project then assists communities to provide sports opportunities within their own neighbourhoods. It currently runs in Almondbury, Springbank Estate, Town Estate in Huddersfield, Dalton, Stile Common in Dewsbury and Chickenley.
Every year The Kirklees Swim Training Scheme trains new volunteers and coaches to ensure training and development continues in the long term. It also helps young people achieve their personal best on a regular basis as they progress through the scheme.
Swimmers compete regionally and nationally at swim meets and the scheme has trained National Champions. The London 2012 Inspire programme officially recognises outstanding, non-commercial programmes that have used the inspiration of the Games to make people more active. Successful projects receive exclusive permission to use the Inspired By London 2012 logo.
