THREE “veterans” of Huddersfield Amateur Operatic Society have called it a day.

And few could blame them – having chalked up an amazing 136 years’ service to theatre between them.

Ken Hoyle had accepted the post of general manager ‘only for a limited period’, which of course turned out to be a lot longer than anticipated.

Ken, now in his 80s, has decided that it is time for the younger generation to take over.

Cynthia Holmes was assistant general manager and a member of the casting committee, while Elaine Walmsley had served as wardrobe mistress, assistant publicity manager, publicity manager and chairman of the casting committee.

All were thanked for their efforts when they stepped down at the society’s annual meeting.

National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) long-service awards were presented to members. They included Jean Taylor who has completed 65 years as a member of the society and has been the NODA local representative for 28 years.

Other medallists: Elaine Walmsley (50 years), Susan Smith and Cynthia Holmes (45 years), Christine Davis and Julia Taylor (35 years), and Elaine Cockram (30 years).
