Eyesore roadworks, which have been in place on a country lane for over three months, will be gone ‘by the end of the month’.

BT is installing superfast broadband cables and chambers at Grimescar Road, Ainley Top.

Manchester-based utilities company O’Connor has been contracted to carry out the work which began before Christmas.

Early last month, a spokesperson for the company told the Examiner that the work would be finished by the ‘middle of next week’.

But the roadworks remained in place and residents became concerned about how long it was taking and apparent periods of inactivity.

A BT spokesperson said work was not taking place on some days so concrete laid could set but added that the job was running to schedule.

The spokesperson said: “We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by the roadworks in place on Grimescar Road.

“Essential work is taking place to support the roll-out of superfast broadband.

“This work is on schedule and we hope to complete by the end of the month as planned.”
