A LONGWOOD couple have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

Harry and Dorothy Clarkson, of Ballroyd Lane, met when both visited The Three Owls pub in Kirkburton on a Sunday evening with friends.

They married at Longwood Methodist Church in April 1952.

Mr Clarkson, 89, worked as an engineer at the former W C Holmes factory in Huddersfield. He was exempt from war service because the firm made frigate decks.

He later moved to Kirkheaton Engineering as a foreman and worked there until he retired in 1987.

Mrs Clarkson, 86, had worked at Parkwood Mills in Longwood, before leaving to raise a family.

The couple have twins, Alan and Doreen, grandchildren Sally, Emma, James and Paul, and great grandchildren Florence, Alex, Charlie and Lachlan.

Mr Clarkson played soccer for Emley for many years.

The couple celebrated with a family party at the Golcar Lily.
