A CIVIL engineer has been on a winning streak on Britain’s most popular radio show.

John Longson, of Longwood, has won 10 consecutive rounds of Car Park Catchphrase on Radio One’s Chris Moyles Show.

The show, which has an average of eight million listeners, features the game from Monday to Thursday at 9.45am.

The quiz, based on the popular TV show Catchphrase hosted by Roy Walker, challenges contestants to guess a well known phrase which matches a scenario described by the Moyles.

Contestants sound their car horn when they think they have the answer.

John, 22, was picked for the quiz on September 20 and has remained on the show for 10 days.

The record number of days a contestant has remained in the competition, which has been running for several years, is 18.

John has taken part in his Vauxhall Corsa in his drive at home or in his van outside work.

He said: “I’ve got some funny looks but some people know what I’m doing. Some people realise you’re on the radio and start acting up.

“It’s brilliant. Everybody knows about it.

“I went to see Huddersfield Town yesterday and people were asking me about it.

“I’ve gained 50 followers on Twitter and had people adding me on Facebook.

“I’m quite good at visualising pictures though some are quite easy.

“Chris Moyles is a Leeds fan so we have a bit of banter. I try to be as entertaining as possible. If you’re boring they don’t want you on there.

“You don’t win anything but you’re on the biggest radio show in the UK.

“At the beginning I was shaking when the producer rang. Now it’s fine. They refer to me as one of their friends.”
