Two men who could be badly hurt are being sought by police.

They were in a stolen car which ploughed through railings in Birkby, Huddersfield, in the early hours of Monday.

Now police are hunting the pair - and believe they could have been injured. They are wanted in connection wth a burglary in which the car was stolen.

Police launched the investigation in the early hours of Monday after a stolen Renault Clio was written off in a crash in Huddersfield.

Shortly after 12.32am, police had received a report of a burglary at a property in Raw Nook Road, Salendine Nook, Huddersfield, in which the car keys had been stolen and a Renault Clio taken from the driveway.

The burglary had happened sometime between 4pm on Friday, June 26, and the victim returning home shortly after midnight on Sunday night.

Less than 50 minutes later, at 1.12am, a further call was received that a Renault Clio had crashed through railings in Halifax Old Road, Birkby, with the two occupants making off from the scene.

The vehicle involved was confirmed as the Clio that had been stolen in the earlier burglary.

Extensive damage had been caused to the vehicle which has since been written off.

Kirklees Council workmen were also called out to carry out emergency repairs to the railings which had been ripped apart by the impact of the car.

Det Insp Mark Truelove, of Kirklees District CID, said: “Enquiries are ongoing in to both of these linked incidents.

“We would appeal to anyone who has witnessed any part of these offences or seen two males - potentially physically injured - running away from the scene in Halifax Old Road.

“Anyone with information is asked to call Kirklees District CID via 101.”
