Do YOU want to be our new Examiner columnist?
ARE you young and fun? Do you lead a hectic life full of partying?
Do you have strong, punchy views on the news?
And, finally, can you string a sentence together?
You could be our Pen Idol!
We're looking for hot new talent to write for the Examiner.
This is your big chance to break into journalism - or just develop a hobby that brings in extra beer money.
The contest is open to anyone - students, workers, jobseekers - from any ethnic background.
We'd particularly like to see entries from Huddersfield's black and Asian communities.
The only rule is that you must be aged 18 to 30.
We might pick out one new, paid columnist to write once a week, or we could choose as many as four, who would contribute about once a month.
It all depends on WHO writes in and WHAT they say.
Examiner editor Roy Wright, who will head the panel of judges, says: "We want young, sparky writers to talk about their wild nights out, their friends and adventures.
"You also need to be on the ball when it comes to current affairs, because we want you to write about your views on the news, too."
A typical column might include a main piece that's about 400 words long, plus two or three secondary pieces of 100 to 250 words each.
And to convince us that you're the writer for us, we want you to put together what we call a "dummy" column, a mock-up to give us an idea of what the real thing would read like.
Make sure it's properly finished-off, though, because we might like to print it - even if you don't win.
Don't worry too much about honing your words to Shakespearean perfection.
We're much more interested in what you say than how flowery your writing style is.
We're giving you a month to get your act together; our closing date is Tuesday, October 19.
Send your entry, together with a few introductory words about yourself - age, address, job, hobbies, that kind of thing - to Jenny Parkin, Examiner, PO Box A26, Queen Street South, Huddersfield HD1 2TD.
Or you can email Jenny Parkin at the address below.
