A Minion, Shrek and Sponge Bob greeted event-goers on a scarecrow trail in Denby Dale.

The event, organised by Denby Dale Lions, pulled in the crowds throughout the weekend with a colourful array of movie-inspired characters.

Lions Secretary Martyn Siddle said: “It’s been a great event. This is the first time we have held a scarecrow trail and everyone has really pulled together to make it a fantastic community event.

“We’ve had 34 scarecrows created from local families and the school.

“Visitors have paid a small fee to complete the trail which will go towards covering costs and Lions funds which are donated to charities throughout the year.

“It’s too early too say our total but it will be over a £1,000.

“We are delighted as our concern was to cover costs so to raise extra for local causes is a great reward for all the hard work.”Lions member Sean Statham added: “I came up with the movie theme for the event and its really worked well.

“I personally made a Minion which my grand-daughter helped me make.

“I like the film and they are always up to mischief.

“We’ve had a great time and its been well supported by the local community.”

The event also involved local businesses and featured live music and a barbecue.
