ELLAND Bypass remains closed at Copley after a serious lorry crash.

The road was closed in both directions at around 1.08pm after the lorry collided with a barrier and became lodged on the central reservation.

The driver, a man in his 60s, was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary by land ambulance before being transferd by the air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary.

The air ambulance landed on Calder Way but his condition was not stable to fly at that time.

The crash has caused severe delays in the area.

The road is expected to be reopened from 8pm.
