Fire crews quickly tackled a lorry fire at an industrial estate in Brighouse.

The fire broke out at 2.50pm at premises off Armytage Road when a lorry was unloading aggregate into the yard.

Crews from Brighouse and Cleckheaton responded to the call at Naylor Myers Builder’s Merchant.

Brighouse Crew Commander Jimmy Johnstone said: “The trailer has been damaged by fire but we managed to save the cab.

“The driver had been tipping the load and using the hydraulic lifting gear when he heard a pop and realised something was wrong.

“He got out of the cab and flames were already coming out of the lorry and he alerted us to the scene.

“He was not injured. We used two hose reels and two breathing apparatus to tackle the fire.”

The incident was dealt with by 3.30pm.
