An HGV driver has been airlifted to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary after his wagon overturned on a country road outside Holmfirth.

The A635 Greenfield Road is closed after the huge vehicle rolled onto its side and into a ditch at about 4.50pm today.

The 28-year-old male driver is injured and has been treated by paramedics.

The air ambulance landed on the road and has flown him to hospital.

It is not currently known what caused the 18-wheel wagon to turn over.

A second vehicle – a black Kia Sorrento 4x4 – is thought to have collided with the lorry after it crashed.

The 50-year-old male driver is not thought to be seriously injured.

A police investigation is currently ongoing and the road is likely to be closed for some time.
