A MASSIVE lorry caused traffic chaos after getting stuck on a main road.

The lorry was travelling on Halifax Road in Birchencliffe when it got stuck on a new pedestrian crossing next to the BP garage at about 4pm yesterday.

Sgt Andy Addy, of Huddersfield traffic police, said: "The load was too wide for the crossing and so it got stuck.

"In the end it managed to get past by going through the BP forecourt, but we had to close the road for a while which caused disruption."

The lorry took about an hour to get on its journey again.

Traffic got jammed in both directions.
