A WATERWAYS project in Kirklees is today celebrating a lottery win.

The Dewsbury Water Linked scheme has been awarded £174,000 in the latest round of Big Lottery fund grants.

The money will be used to help promote healthier lifestyles.

Volunteers will expand on the work being done along the River Calder and the Calder and Hebble Navigation Canal, to encourage more people to see what the waterways have to offer.

They will be targeting local communities with fishing “taster” days, community arts projects, canoeing sessions and towpath tidy days.

Paul Jones, the Big Lottery Fund’s Yorkshire head, said: “The Reaching Communities grants are great examples of how organisations are making real differences to individual lives”.
