Max Morley has rocketed to superstardom.

After winning reality TV show Love Island and a share of £50,000 in Majorca on Wednesday night, the 22-year-old from Holmfirth has been propelled into life’s jet stream, along with glamour model Jessica Hayes.

A few weeks ago Max was working as a stonemason at the family firm GLM Stone Sales at Hagg Wood, Honley, as well as playing cricket.

Today he and Jess are spending the day giving interviews to the media, including Hello and OK magazines, before arriving back home for a family party at his Huddersfield Road family home with parents Gary and Yvette and brother Jake, 18.

Yvette said: “It’s brilliant – and crazy. Words can’t describe how we all feel. Max’s life will change forever.

“As soon as the show finished, they Facetimed us from the hotel room and Max and Jess are both in absolute shock, they were screaming and shouting. They can’t believe it. It hasn’t really sunk in.

“They really thought they were the underdogs. They kept saying: ‘Why, why have we won?’ We thought Jon and Hannah would win. Things like this don’t happen to people like us. We are just normal people. This is phenomenal.’

“Jess was kissing Max’s head and he was kissing her hair when they Facetimed, They are just so cute together, just gorgeous.

“All the housemates and the man who does the voice-over wanted them to win. They both light up around each other, they are so genuine and down to Earth, I think that’s why they won.

“Max is a Yorkshire lad and he has stayed true to himself. I am so happy I genuinely think that this is what Love Island is all about. It has been absolutely fantastic.

“Gary and I flew out to the villa and it was brilliant, and I’d like to than ITV for that.

“Max is well known through his cricket and football and the support from everyone – and the builders who use our firm – has been fantastic. Jake went out on Wednesday night and it was just crazy.

“Jess’s family have invited us to a party at her house. It will be crazy from now on.

“We are just so proud of him. We know he is a lovely lad, now the nation knows it too!”

Over the last few weeks, Max’s Twitter following has shot up from 400 to 40,000. Just before he appeared on Love Island, he signed with Nemesis Model Agency in Manchester.

In Love Island, 12 single celebrities spent five weeks in a Majorcan villa. Viewers who downloaded the app voted for the couple they wanted to see in the “love shack,” where the two get to know each another better.

The last couple of weeks were tumultuous, with tears, tantrums, hellos, goodbyes, changing allegiances, fights between the girls and the boys stripped naked.

Max and Jess narrowly beat runners-up Jonathan Clark and Hannah Elizabeth, who had got engaged during a commitment ceremony task earlier that day.
