The force of the impact dislodged the engine from the Vectra while the Renault ended up straddled across a stone wall.
Watch commander Chris Bell, of Huddersfield Fire Station, said the male driver of the Vectra and the woman in the
Renault suffered what were believed to be slight injuries and were taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for checks.
"I am absolutely amazed no one was seriously hurt," he said.
The road was partially closed for a time and traffic built up in the local area.
Mr Bell said there was a lot of black ice on the road and added: "We would urge people to slow down and drive carefully. They should beware the possibility of black ice."
