A Marsh couple had a lucky escape this morning after a fierce fire broke out in their Marsh back-to-back terraced house.

They were in bed when the fire alarm sounded at their Broomfield Road home just after 8am.

When the woman left the bedroom she was faced with a blazing wall of orange fire but she and her husband managed to escape

She had burns to her feet and both suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary by ambulance.

Two fire engines from Huddersfield attended the blaze, which was believed to have been caused by hair straighteners.
