A WOMAN was lucky to escape serious injury when a massive piece of machinery crashed through her car window.

The motorist from Oakes was driving her black Nissan Micra near the bottom of Trinity Street at its junction with Huddersfield ring road when the stone crusher toppled off a pick-up truck at 9am yesterday.

Luckily it smashed through the Nissan's rear window.

If it had fallen just seconds earlier it could have hit the driver's side and caved that part of the car in on her.

The hydraulic machine, weighing three quarters of a tonne, crashed through the back window and became embedded in the parcel shelf.

The woman was shocked but otherwise unhurt.

The driver now faces prosecution for having an insecure load.

As it fell on to the car the stone crusher also hit a bus window and smashed it.

No-one was hurt in the incident, but one lane of the road was closed off while the stone crusher was lifted from the car.

Traffic quickly became jammed up Trinity Street and Westbourne Road.
