SCORES of tsunami raffle winners turned up at the Examiner office to collect their prizes.

Some 141 winning tickets were drawn in the raffle at the Huddersfield In Harmony concert.

And Saturday was the first day that those who struck it lucky could bring in their tickets and take away the goodies!

People began to pour through the doors at Queen Street South as soon as they opened at 8.30am.

Top prizes included six months' membership for two, worth £500, at the Galpharm Stadium health and fitness club, an Amsterdam mini- cruise and a bathroom suite from Victorian Bathrooms worth £600.

Others included vouchers for shopping in Huddersfield and meals at top restaurants.

Tony and Mandy Slywkanycz were among the first in the queue.

The couple, of Larch Road, Paddock, won a meal for four at the Cedar Court Hotel, Ainley Top - along with a limousine ride.

Mandy, 42, said: "We were shocked, but very pleasantly surprised, when we heard we had won.

"We are going to take my mum and dad with us for a treat, because they help us out a lot and are always there for us."

The chairwoman of Honley Ladies' Choir, which sang at the concert, was also among the winners.

June Tracey, of Stirley Hill, Almondbury, won £50 worth of Marks & Spencers vouchers.

She said: "I sang at the concert and it was a fabulous night.

"I am looking forward to buying something for myself with the vouchers. Something nice for summer, I think."

Sheila Walshaw, of Holme View Drive, Upperthong, was the lucky winner of an espresso coffee maker.

She said: "I bought the raffle tickets because it was for a very good cause.

"I am very pleased to have won. I like coffee."

The raffle tied in with the big concert at Huddersfield Town Hall, in association with Richard Alexander and Alexander Audi.

Six choirs and two brass bands performed and the whole effort raised £20,000 for the disaster victims.

ANYONE who hasn't claimed their prize yet should phone first to make sure their winnings are here. A few of the prizes have not yet been supplied to the Examiner.
