A woman was terrified that her partner was going to kill her as he stamped on her head after binging on cocaine and rum.

Luke Manton later returned to his on/off partner Sophie Hanson’s Dewsbury Moor home and threatened to burn it down.

The couple had rowed after Manton left the address to buy the class A drug off his dealer.

The 20-year-old pleaded guilty to charges of assault and threats to cause criminal damage when he appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court in custody.

The court heard that Manton and Miss Hanson had been in a relationship for a couple of years which kept ending because of Manton’s problem with drugs.

Miss Hanson recently gave birth to their child, who was six weeks old and in the house at the time of the attack.

On March 4 they returned to her home in Moorside Avenue after sharing a bottle of Bacardi while out for a meal.

He then left the house to meet his drug dealer who gave him some cocaine and a row erupted when he came back into the house.

Alex Bozman, prosecuting, said: “An argument developed involving his drugs use and this resulted in Manton becoming violent towards her.

“He punched her to the head and body and knocked her to the ground.

“Whilst she was on the ground he also trod on her head, repeatedly punching her in the face and head and shouting f*****g s**g.

“She was terrified, she thought he was going to kill her.”

Ian Whiteley, mitigating, said that his client had turned to cocaine and cannabis after hitting rock bottom in his life.

Magistrates ordered a report from probation staff before sentencing him.
