A Kirkheaton man ‘went crazy’ and caused more than £1,000 damage to his partner’s home after being asked to leave.

Kirklees magistrates heard that Luke Moore, of Edale Close, flipped and smashed a window and other property belonging to Rebecca Grafton.

The mum-of-two described how she was left frightened after Moore threatened to kill her horses if she left him.

Moore, 25, pleaded guilty to criminal damage when he appeared at the Huddersfield court in custody.

The incident took place on February 26 at Miss Grafton’s Kirkburton home, which she shared with their children aged five and two.

At the time Moore was subject to a suspended jail term imposed following his conviction for assaulting Miss Grafton.

Police were called to the address after Moore smashed up property including glasses, a cup, a ceiling, wall, chest of drawers and a light shade.

Alex Bozman, prosecuting, said: “Glass was everywhere. He also demanded use of her phone to call a taxi and that was damaged.”

Moore left when the taxi arrived and Miss Grafton started to pack his belongings.

He later returned and ‘kicked off’ again, Mr Bozman said.

He told magistrates: “The defendant didn’t leave the address, despite efforts from his sister and father. He goes crazy and throws things at people as they try and leave and smashed a first floor window.”

Moore caused around £1,350 damage to the house and Miss Grafton said she was frightened of his violent and controlling behaviour.

Mr Bozman said: “She’s scared he’ll hurt her and the children.

“She said: ‘Luke has said to me before that if I leave him he will kill my horses and my life won’t be worth living’.”

Paul Blanchard, mitigating, described his client has having mental health difficulties. He added: “When confronted by stressful situations he loses his temper.”

Magistrates ordered a full report before his sentencing on March 25.
