COMMUNITY volunteers have been rewarded with a celebratory lunch after gaining their basic food hygiene certificates.

Volunteers from the Communities United Project (Cup) enjoyed lunch at Frankie and Benny's Italian restaurant at John William Street on Thursday .

The volunteers are all members of Cowlersley Tenants' and Residents' Association who give their time to help Cup run activities for Cowlersley youngsters.

Cup is a charity which provides sports activities for young people.

Volunteers having hygiene certificates means that Cup can provide food at its events.

Cup worker Lesley Steel, who organised the course, said: "This lunch is just one small way for us to recognise the hard work and commitment of people who give their time for nothing."
