It was only a minor smash but this £50,000 4x4 was turned into an convertible by rescuers.

Emergency services were called to a collision between a Range Rover Sport and a tiny Peugeot 107 at the infamous Sovereign crossroads near Shepley .

The crash occurred outside Sovereign Garage at the junction of the A629 Penistone Road and A635 Barnsley Road during this morning's rush hour.

While the brand new Range Rover had just minor damage, firefighters were forced to chop the roof off the luxury vehicle – which had just 400 miles on the clock – to extract one of the occupants safely.

Police have said the occupants of both vehicles have only minor injuries.
