Highways England: M62 fully reopened
“The M62 near Oldham and Rochdale in Greater Manchester has now fully reopened following this morning’s serious collision.
“Both carriageways of the motorway between junction 20 and Oldham and junction 21 at Milnrow were closed at around 9.35am earlier today (Monday 4 July) following a serious collision.
“The eastbound carriageway reopened at 3.30pm. The westbound carriageway reopened shortly after 4.45pm.
“Drivers should check travel conditions before setting out on journeys as there are likely to be residual delays along the motorway.”

Update from Greater Manchester Police
Officers have now spoken with the family of the man that has died. Formal ID has not yet taken place.
The man and woman who were injured remain in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
The Eastbound carriageway of the M62 has now been opened. The Westbound carriageway of the M62, from J21 to J20, remains closed but officers are hoping to be able to open this in the next hour.
Highways England update: M62 westbound unlikely to reopen before rush hour
Drivers heading out of West Yorkshire towards Manchester are being advised the closure of the westbound M62 around Oldham and Rochdale is unlikely to be lifted before the start to this evening’s peak travel period.
Both carriageways of the motorway between junction 20 and Oldham and junction 21 at Milnrow were closed at around 9.35am earlier today (Monday 4 July) following a serious collision.
The eastbound carriageway reopened at 3.30pm. Police investigation work along the westbound carriageway is continuing which will need to be followed by barrier repairs and the recovery of vehicles from the scene. The westbound carriageway is unlikely to open again before 4.30pm.
Drivers needing to use the westbound M62 are advised to avoid the area – by choosing an alternative route or delaying their journeys until after the carriageway has reopened and residual queues have cleared.
Eastbound carriageway could open in next 10 minutes
Police told us they hope to have the eastbound carriageway open in the next five to 10 minutes.
However the westbound is likely to be closed until around 4.30pm
