Police have revealed the woman airlifted to hospital from the M62 was from Bolton in Lancashire.

The 61-year-old was flown to Leeds General Infirmary after the incident closed the motorway for hours on Tuesday afternoon.

The Eastbound carriageway was closed from 1pm until around 6.30pm after the crash.

No other vehicles were involved in the smash, which was a few hundred yards after the entry slip road on the Leeds-bound side.

Firefighters from Huddersfield chopped the roof off the small hatchback to help paramedics get the pensioner on a stretcher safely.

She was transferred to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance which landed on the carriageway after police halted vehicles hundreds of yards away.

The woman's injuries are not believed to be life threatening and she is receiving treatment for head injuries.
