A lorry overturned on the M62 just before junction 23 at Huddersfield early today, causing long delays.

The HGV, travelling eastbound, is thought to have lost a wheel before overturning and spinning round to face oncoming traffic in the outside lane. The accident happened at 4.45am.

Watch commander Andy Marshall, of Elland Fire Station, said the driver is believed to have kicked out his windscreen to escape his cab. He suffered bruising to his leg.

Two lanes of the motorway were closed as recovery of the vehicle took place.

Delays built up back to junction 22 at Rishworth Moor and traffic also slowed on the westbound carriageway near the scene, adding to congestion.
