Drivers face months of roadworks on two sections of the M62 near Huddersfield this winter.

Both the eastbound and westbound sides of the carriageway will be closed between the slip roads at junction 25 at Brighouse for bridge works overnight this Tuesday, October 20.

The eastbound exit slip road at junction 25 will be fully closed overnight for three nights with a single lane between the slip roads from Wednesday.

The closures will take place between 8pm and 6am and drivers will be able to follow clearly signed diversion routes.

Between Junction 25 and Junction 26 at Chain Bar the eastbound side of the motorway will be reduced to a single lane for roadworks overnight for two nights from Tuesday.

Resurfacing, road marking, stud renewal and maintenance work will take place from Saturday, October 31, for 15 nights between junction 22 at Windy Hill and junction 23 at Outlane.

The work, which will take place between 6pm and 8am, will mean closing the westbound and eastbound carriagweways at various times. During the carriageway closures, the hard shoulders will be used for traffic.

A separate scheme will see work to repair and replace traffic signals and message boards between junction 25 at Brighouse and junction 26 at Chain Bar.

Work there will begin on Sunday, November 1, and is scheduled to finish on Sunday, January 31, 2016. Work will take place between 10.30pm and 5.30am. Sections of the westbound and eastbound carriageways between and the exit and entry slip roads at junction 25 and junction 26 will be closed at various time with alternative routes signposted.

The announcement comes just weeks after Highways England was urged by transport Minister Patrick McLoughlin to limit roadworks to stretches of two miles at a time to help drivers cope.

Ambitious plans to upgrade the busy M62 motorway were confirmed in July – with the M62 through Huddersfield becoming a “smart” motorway over the next five years with the aim of reducing congestion.
