A MAN died on the M62 yesterday after he was involved in a collision with a lorry near Rochdale.
The man, who has not been named, was struck as he walked on the motorway.
He was killed at the scene shortly before 9am and the motorway had to be closed, causing traffic jams stretching for miles.
Police, fire crews and Highways Agency officers were at the scene.
The collision happened on the westbound carriageway between Junction 20 and Heywood and Junction 19 Rochdale and the lanes were closed until mid morning to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.
Traffic was severely delayed with five miles of congestion reported to junction 22 Rishworth Moor causing an hour’s delay for motorists.
